Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized therapy that includes targeted exercises to relieve pain and discomfort usually caused by incontinence, painful sex, endometriosis, and organ prolapse.
Some women just assume if you’ve given birth, gone through menopause, or you’re getting older, this is the result, and they don’t talk about it.
If your mother didn’t talk about it, your grandmother probably didn’t either, which may leave you feeling embarrassed with little to no knowledge about what’s happening to your body. You do not have to live with shame and discomfort in regard to your pelvic floor.
And you don’t need an obvious problem to start therapy for your pelvic floor. It’s wonderful before, during, and after pregnancy and childbirth, to proactively strengthen the muscles in and around the pelvic floor and to help the healing after a vaginal or cesarean birth.
Your pelvic floor supports the urinary and reproductive tracts as well as your bladder and bowels. It holds your uterus, vagina, and rectum in place. When the muscles of the pelvic floor are weak from childbirth, age, or weight they don’t work as well as they should, causing pelvic floor dysfunction.
The constant urge to pee, fart, or poop, a heaviness in your pelvis, constipation, and ineffective kegel exercises are all signs of pelvic floor dysfunction.
Some other symptoms are: hemorrhoids, interstitial cystitis, pain in your neck, mid-back, and/or low back, a weak core, and orthopedic pelvic pain.
At Holistic Physical Therapy, we understand how vulnerable you can feel talking openly about it. So we have private, comfortable treatment rooms where we can talk and treat confidentially,
